COVID-19 (06/27): Taiwan reports 28,489 local cases, 91 deaths

Taiwan reported 28,489 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday. Ninety-one more people have died.

The number of local infections dropped by almost a third compared to Sunday. But Monday’s numbers are often lower than usual because testing capacity is limited over the weekend.

Taichung saw the most new infections with 4,008 cases. Kaohsiung saw the second most with 3,888 cases followed by New Taipei with 3,679.

Another 91 people have died from COVID-19. It’s the first time daily deaths have dipped below 100 since the end of May. Most of the people who died were over the age of 80. More than a third were completely unvaccinated.

Out of all of Monday’s confirmed local infections, 205 have moderate or severe symptoms.

Taiwan also recorded 91 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
