Taiwan will begin dispersing NT$30 billion in new rent subsidies to households beginning October 3. That came from Premier Su Tseng-Chang at a launch event for the new subsidy scheme on Thursday.
Premier Su says the new scheme will include four central pillars. Those include increasing the number of recipients, increasing the subsidy amount, relaxing requirements, and simplifying the application process. The program will accept applications between July 1 and August 31. Su says the new program is an example of the government sharing Taiwan’s economic achievements with the public.
The Interior Ministry says the new scheme will greatly increase rent support in Taiwan. It aims to include 500,000 households, and will increase rental support to recipients between 20% and 80%.
The policy also eases the income requirements for applicants from below 2.5 times the minimum living expenses in an area to three times that amount. For Taipei, that means households earning below NT$56,000 per month will be eligible.
