Starting on July 1, foreign professionals whose work permits are approved by Taiwan’s labor ministry will be able to apply for Alien Resident Certificates (ARC) online instead of in person. That’s the word from the National Immigration Agency on Thursday.
The new application method will be available as part of a pilot program. Applicants’ relatives will also be able to take advantage of the new scheme when applying at the same time.
The National Immigration Agency says the program will offer convenience to applicants. New arrivals with approved work permits will be able to apply for ARC before finishing their COVID-19 quarantine.
Taiwan’s ARC is issued to various categories of non-residents, including people undertaking employment, parents, children and spouses of legal residents, missionaries, investors, and students.
The National Immigration Agency says it will examine the results of this pilot program and consider extending it to applicants whose work permits are approved by other institutions, such as the Ministry of Education.
