One of Taiwan’s best high schools has been — quite literally — written in the stars, after astronomers gave its name to an asteroid. Chenggong High School now has a celestial body bearing its title: Chenggong 175452. It’s the first time that has happened to a Taiwanese high school.
The asteroid was discovered by Lulin Observatory of National Central University in 2006. Its name was formally approved by the International Astronomical Union.
The asteroid is between 1 and 3 kilometers across and circles the sun at a distance of more than 250 million kilometers. It takes about three-and-a-half years to complete its orbit.
