Kaohsiung blood donors given free grouper fish
The gift of life is reciprocated with a gift of fish from Yongan Fisheries.

People who gave blood on Monday in the southern city of Kaohsiung got an unusual token of thanks — a single fresh grouper fish. Kaohsiung Blood Center teamed up with a local fishers association to give out 200 of the fish to visiting donors.

The special event was organized to raise awareness about the challenges that the community faces. On the one hand, China’s ban on grouper imports from Taiwan last month has hit the local seafood industry hard. On the other, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant disruptions to blood supply.

Other organizations have also come together to help the grouper industry and address social issues. The Indigenous Affairs Commission of Kaohsiung and Fu-Ming Group collaborated today to donate 280 groupers to disadvantaged households and other underprivileged people living in Maolin District.
