The transportation ministry is having a busy start to the week. On Monday, protesters from not one, but several different groups gathered outside the ministry’s office with lists of demands.
Around 130 workers for state-owned delivery company Chunghwa Express didn’t show up to work on Monday. That’s because they were on strike, protesting low wages — here, outside the transportation ministry.
That’s because the ministry is ultimately in charge. And while the company’s chair Huang Chen-chung appeared at the protest, perhaps in an effort to negotiate, he couldn’t promise anything to the disgruntled workers.
Shortly after Chunghwa Express protesters disbanded, another group of protestors showed up. This time it was a coalition representing scooter riders, drone operators and water sports instructors.
They’re calling for fewer rules. Scooter riders want more freedom on the road, drone operators want relaxed oversight, and the water sports alliance wants less limits on where activities are allowed.
Complaints are coming at the transportation ministry from land, sea and air. It’s a multi-front attack that’s no doubt driving up the pressure on the government agency. Leslie Liao, RTI News.
