The education ministry is hiring more native English language teachers to work in Taiwan’s schools. The boost to recruitment is part of the ministry’s English Language Teaching Assistant program, which aims to advance English language proficiency in Taiwan.
According to the education authorities, the positions are available for the 2022-2023 academic year in 345 public schools. Each teacher will receive a salary of NT$400 (US$13) an hour as well as a transportation subsidy and other incentives.
The ministry’s program falls under the government’s broader Bilingual Nation 2030 policy to increase the level of English fluency in Taiwan and raise the island’s international competitiveness.
