Taiwan’s newly-formed Friends of Shinzo Abe Association plans to pay tribute to the former Japanese prime minister, who was shot dead Friday.
Abe was a vocal supporter of Taiwan.
Friends of Shinzo Abe Association President Mark Chen says the group will raise money for a special memorial page on the cover of the Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun. Chen says he hopes the page will convince Japanese people that “helping Taiwan is the right thing to do.”
The association also intends to honor Abe’s memory with other activities. Chen says that he hopes to expand and deepen ties between Japan and Taiwan by offering scholarships for Japanese students to visit and study in Taiwan.
