Seven Japanese parliamentarians will visit Taiwan at the end of the month. That’s according to Taiwan’s top envoy to Japan Frank Hsieh.
On Tuesday night, Hsieh wrote on Facebook that he had dinner with a group of Japanese lawmakers. During that dinner, he learned that seven parliamentarians planned to visit Taiwan in late July.
Hsieh says that the visit comes at a pivotal time. He points out Japan is sending a delegation shortly after former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s death, which shows Japan’s continued support for Taiwan.
Shinzo Abe was seen as a staunch supporter of Taiwan. He was shot dead last Friday while giving a campaign speech in the city of Nara.
Taiwan’s foriegn ministry says that it’s still working out an itinerary for the lawmakers’ visit.
