Media reports say police have arrested Hong Kong protester Tsang Chi-kin as he tried to flee to Taiwan by speedboat on Wednesday.

Tsang made headlines in 2019 during the city’s pro-democracy protests when he was shot in the chest by a police officer. He was 18 years old at the time. Tsang survived the attack and was later charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of rioting.

But he never stood trial. According to pro-Beijing newspaper Ta Kung Pao, Tsang missed his court date at the end of 2020. At the time, an advocacy group said he was in exile.

But on Wednesday, Tsang was detained along with three other people as they tried to flee to Taiwan by boat. He will appear in court on Thursday.
