VIDEO: Photographers mourn beloved Taipei 101 footbridge
This footbridge at the base of Taipei 101 is getting torn down

Photographers in Taiwan are lamenting the imminent loss of a favorite shooting spot in the country’s capital.

At the base of Taipei 101 is a footbridge that offers people an unrivaled view of the tallest building in Taiwan. It’s a favorite spot among photographers to capture alluring metropolitan nightviews. Unfortunately, this footbridge, situated at a busy intersection in downtown Taipei, is getting torn down.

One man says he has come to the bridge to take some pictures at the vantage point, as it’s his last chance to do so.

Footbridge access was blocked off on Tuesday. Work to take it down began three days later.

The Taipei City Government conducted an assessment last November and ultimately decided to get rid of the walkway for traffic and safety reasons. One man says that he thinks authorities are being overly cautious.

The footbridge has helped produce awe-inspiring images of Taipei. It’s a favorite place for amateur photographers to hone their skills. Finding a new place to cut their teeth may prove as much of a challenge as mastering photography.
