Next week Taiwan is set to begin its annual Han Kuang Exercise, the most important military drill of the year. This year’s exercise is the largest in history, and will focus on keeping Taiwan prepared for a possible invasion.

Taiwan is preparing for the 38th annual Han Kuang Exercise, the most important military simulation of the year. The exercise takes place throughout Taiwan, and uses live personnel and ammunition to simulate a Chinese invasion. This year’s exercise is scheduled to take place from July 25 to the 29.

In a rehearsal ahead of next week’s exercise, commanders dispatched two Apache helicopters and four blackhawk helicopters to simulate an invasion of Taipei Harbor. Missiles and mines will also be used to practice a scenario that ensures any invader is left on the shore.

This year’s exercise will be the largest in Taiwan’s history. The military hopes to test new strategies learned as a result of the war in Ukraine. It will also focus on advancing asymmetric warfare and information warfare.

Certain districts throughout Taiwan will also test air raid drills. All vehicles and pedestrians will have to simulate finding cover in the event of an aerial attack. With tensions rising in the Taiwan Strait, authorities are looking to stay prepared.
