Taiwan reported 25,521 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
New Taipei City saw the most new infections, with 4,504 people there testing positive. Taichung City had the second-most new infections with 3,168, followed by Taoyuan City with 2,680.
Another 28 people have died from COVID-19. They were aged between 30 to over 90 years old. Twenty-five had a history of chronic illness, while half of those who died were unvaccinated.
Authorities say another 154 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 171 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
