Chinese sanctions cannot silence Taiwanese voices. That’s according to Taiwan’s Representative to the US Hsiao Bi-khim, who was recently targeted by sanctions herself.
On Twitter, Hsiao said, “If Beijing CCP thinks they can restrict Taiwan’s international space and stifle the voices of the Taiwanese people by sanctioning us, they are wrong. Where there is oppression, there will be resistance.”
On Tuesday, the Chinese Communist Party’s Taiwan Work Office announced sanctions against seven Taiwanese lawmakers and officials — mostly from the ruling DPP. China labeled the seven targeted people as “diehard Taiwan secessionists.”
The sanctions prevent the targeted people from entering China, Hong Kong, and Macau. It also limits them from doing business or making money in China.
