Taiwan reported 24,669 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
New Taipei City saw the most new infections, with 5,073 people there testing positive. Taipei City had the second-most new infections with 3,054, followed by Taichung City with 2,966. Authorities say they expect daily cases to begin rising again next week.
Another 33 people have died from COVID-19. They were aged between 50 to over 90 years old, and only about a third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 111 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 204 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
