It’s supposed to be typhoon season in Taiwan right now, but no typhoon has hit the country yet. Weather experts say if there’s no typhoon by the end of the month, that’ll be three years in a row where Taiwan hasn't had a typhoon in the first eight months of the year.
The weather in Taiwan right now is hot. In fact, according to Taiwan’s health ministry, heat-related injuries are up 80% compared to the same time last year.
Summers in Taiwan are typically hot. But, summer is also supposed to be typhoon season for the country. Yet, it’s the middle of August and not a single typhoon has hit Taiwan so far this year. Weather experts are pointing out that if a typhoon doesn’t come before the end of the month, that’ll be three years in a row where Taiwan has gone without a typhoon in the first eight months of the year.
But no typhoon doesn’t mean no rain. Next week, Taiwan will see a high pressure front. It will bring hot weather, but it’s also expected to bring intense afternoon thunderstorms with it.
So, if you’re in Taiwan next week, be sure to pack both your sunglasses and umbrellas.
