An international alliance announced on Monday that it has established an Indo-Pacific forum. One of the forum’s goals is to strengthen exchanges with Taiwan. This comes as China is increasing its influence in the region.

The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China is an organization made up of 220 parliamentarians from 25 countries. These nations include Australia, New Zealand, Japan and India. The purpose of the group is to coordinate China policy in the areas of global trade, security, and human rights.

A statement published after the alliance’s first Indo-Pacific Forum raised concerns about the regular Chinese military threats aimed at Taiwan. It also touched on a recent security arrangement between Beijing and the Solomon Islands. The alliance’s legislators say they are worried about what China sees as its role in the Pacific.

The group hopes to work with more lawmakers from other countries in the region, including Taiwan, and to see them attend future meetings.
