Taiwan reported 26,095 new local cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
New Taipei recorded the largest number of new cases, with 5,258 people there testing positive. Another 3,189 have the disease in Taipei, along with 3,038 in Taichung.
Another 16 people have died from COVID-19. They ranged in age between 50 and over 90. All had suffered from chronic diseases, while less than half had received three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 28 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 287 imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
