Authorities have arrested a man in Hsinchu suspected of murdering two police officers in Tainan. National Police Agency head Huang Ming-chao said police arrested Lin Hsin-wu on Tuesday morning, a day after the killings.
The two victims were police officers Tu Ming-cheng and Tsao Jui-chieh, who were found covered in blood after they reported finding a stolen motorcycle on Monday. The officers were rushed to the hospital, where medical staff pronounced them dead.
Tainan Police Department head Fang Yang-ning says Lin switched vehicles several times after fleeing the crime scene. Lin took a combination of taxis, buses, and trains throughout Tainan and Kaohsiung, before boarding a bus to Hsinchu.
Fang says police found Lin with a gun and 18 bullets that belonged to one of the dead police officers.
Many members of the public have reacted strongly to the murders, calling for the government to impose the death penalty. Premier Su Tseng-chang responded that the judicial system would thoroughly investigate the case and carry out the proper sentence.
