Taiwanese trade officials have launched a new initiative to entice international firms to buy local products. Trade official Chiang Wen-juo said on Thursday that Taiwan’s trade office is organizing expositions over the second half of the year to market smart medical equipment and resilient supply chains.
Official figures show that orders from overseas dropped in July for the first time in more than two years. That came as countries around the world went into recessions. Taiwan’s government expects that July’s decline will continue into August, and some experts think the trend will continue even longer.
Officials say 153 partners from 38 countries will take part in the two expositions, including industry leaders from Italy, Bulgaria and Malaysia. Taiwan is also preparing to send a delegation centered on smart industries to countries in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
Trade official Chiang says Taiwan aims to sign US$480 million worth of deals and to spread out sales to prevent Taiwan from becoming over-reliant on one market.
