Taiwan reported 20,160 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
New Taipei saw the most new cases with 4,123 people there testing positive. Taoyuan recorded the second most cases with 2,471, followed by Taipei with 2,470.
Another 22 people have died from COVID-19. They were aged between 50 and over 90 years old. Twenty people had a history of chronic illness. Nine of the deceased were unvaccinated. All exhibited severe symptoms before passing.
Authorities say another 50 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 288 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
