Taiwan reported 33,875 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. That’s a quarter more than last week.
If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Hsinchu City is a hotspot for the virus. Almost 1,000 people have new cases of COVID there. Hsinchu County is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Hualien County.
Another 36 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, although the youngest were two women in their 20s who had no history of chronic disease. Both were fully vaccinated.
Authorities say another 154 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 243 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
