Taiwan’s diplomatic allies plan to push for its inclusion at the annual UN General Assembly. That was the word from the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, in anticipation of the upcoming assembly on September 13 in New York.
The ministry says many like-minded countries are willing to stand up for Taiwan and allow the country to help the international community solve global issues. The theme of this year’s General Assembly is “transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.”
Foreign Ministry official Lily Hsu says China has pressured the UN to bar Taiwan from attending the assembly. Hsu says China and Taiwan are two separate countries and that it’s unfair that only Beijing is represented in the international forum.
The ministry says Taiwan will host side events during the General Assembly to promote the country’s ideas regarding global issues and attract more international attention.
