Lithuanian vice economy minister visits Taiwan
Lithuania’s Vice Economy Minister Karolis Žemaitis

Lithuania’s Vice Economy Minister Karolis Žemaitis is leading a government delegation on a five-day visit to Taiwan. Though Žemaitis arrived in Taiwan on Saturday, his official itinerary began on Monday morning.

He leads a 28-member delegation made up of representatives from Lithuania’s laser and biotechnology sectors. The group is here to foster ties with Taiwan in those industries.

Lithuania and Taiwan have grown closer over the past year after the countries agreed to open representative offices in each others’ capitals, despite pressure from China to drop those plans.

According to Taiwan’s foreign ministry, the delegation will visit Taiwan’s National Development Council and economy ministry, as well as several research institutes and businesses. Foreign Minister Joseph Wu will host a banquet for the delegation during their time here.

Žemaitis is the fourth Lithuanian official at the level of deputy minister to visit Taiwan this year.
