The foreign ministry said on Tuesday that the Lithuanian Trade Representative Office in Taipei has begun operations.

Relations between Taiwan and Lithuania have been going strong after the Baltic state welcomed a Taiwanese Representative Office in Vilnius last November. That was the first representative office in Europe that didn’t use “Taipei” to appease China.  Beijing responded by downgrading bilateral diplomatic relations and blocking Lithuanian goods from entering China.

Director-General of European Affairs Remus Chen says that a formal opening ceremony will be held once Paulius Lukauskas, who is to head the representative office in Taipei, arrives in Taiwan.

The foreign ministry says it hopes the two sides will work together to expand industrial cooperation, economic and trade links, and build a resilient supply chain.

Meanwhile, Lithuania’s Vice Economy Minister Karolis Žemaitis and his delegation of government officials and business representatives are currently on a five-day visit to Taiwan.
