EU spy chief José Casimiro Morgado was supposed to come to Taiwan in late October. However, those plans have since been canceled after information on the trip was seemingly leaked to China. That’s according to a report from US media outlet Politico.
Politico’s report says that Morgado’s trip was supposed to be a “below-the-radar” visit to meet with Taiwanese officials. According to the report, the plans seem to have been leaked, calling into question the integrity of the EU's informational security.
However, an EU official with knowledge of the situation said that Morgado was not going to visit Taiwan. Instead, he was set to hold phone calls with Taiwanese officials. Morgado later decided to cancel these exchanges due to China’s reaction to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last month.
