The government will take measures to help retain talent in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. That came from Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of a semiconductor trade show.
In recent days, the US has sought to implement a number of restrictions aimed at curbing China’s access to sophisticated microchips. As China looks to develop its chips industry, media reports indicate that at least one Chinese firm has been aggressively headhunting talent in Taiwan’s semiconductor sector. Taiwan is home to the world’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing operations.
Wang says she had only recently heard about China’s poaching. She has vowed to remain in close contact with domestic companies to ensure that Taiwan’s semiconductor know-how stays in the country. At the same time, the economics ministry will make amendments to Taiwan’s laws to prevent brain drain.
Wang says the country’s semiconductor industry is the best in the world. It not only entails cutting-edge research, but also thorough talent cultivation. She says those who stay in Taiwan are the ones who truly excel in the industry.
