A Taiwanese parliamentary delegation held closed-door meetings with US Congressional leaders on Tuesday as part of a three-day visit to Washington. The trip is aimed at deepening bilateral ties in the face of regional security threats.
The bipartisan group is led by opposition lawmaker and deputy director of the Taiwanese legislature’s USA Caucus Charles Chen. The visit comes as lawmakers in Washington are considering new legislation that would greatly increase US military aid to Taiwan.
Chen says the group spoke with senior US politicians, including Mark Warner, Richard Burr, Rick Scott, Lindsey Graham, and Debbie Lesko. They discussed cross-strait tensions and global supply chains. The US lawmakers expressed their strong support for further expanding cooperation with Taiwan.
