A Taiwanese trade delegation has signed a letter of intent to buy over US$3.2 billion worth of agricultural products from the United States. Agriculture Council Deputy Minister Huang Ching-cheng approved the document on Wednesday during a visit to Washington.

The non-binding agreement involves Taiwan purchasing large amounts of US soy, corn and wheat. Taiwan is already the 7th largest overseas market for US agricultural products.

Taiwan's Representative to the United States Hsiao Bi-khim says the agreement is testament to the growing relationship between the two countries' agricultural sectors. She says till now, pandemic restrictions have stopped Taiwanese delegations from visiting the United States, so this is the first to arrive for three years.

The delegation will travel to seven states after their visit to Washington to discuss business opportunities with local officials and farmers.
