Taiwan has seen a major increase in hacking activities in the past two months. On Tuesday at the legislature, Digital Minister Audrey Tang said Taiwan must nurture firms that simulate attacks on technology companies to increase their preparedness.

Taiwan has experienced an unprecedented increase in network attacks following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit in August. Those attacks included hackers changing electronic signs in convenience stores and train stations. Tang says Taiwan must develop its Red Team assessment capabilities to resist these efforts.

Red Teams are groups that simulate hacking operations to help companies better understand and improve their vulnerabilities. Tang says Taiwan already has a number of firms providing these services and is finding other personnel to increase its Red Team assessment capabilities.

Minister Tang adds Taiwan must do more than just defend against attacks. She says the country must change its data systems architecture, as well as learn from experience and provide funding to be better prepared.
