Taiwan reported 49,509 new local cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. That’s about 9% higher than the number of cases reported on Tuesday last week.
If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, New Taipei is a hotspot for the virus. More than 9,000 people have new cases of COVID there. Miaoli is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Taichung.
Another 31 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80 and less than a fifth had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 62 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 65 imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
