COVID-19 (10/13): Taiwan reports 53,356 local cases, 29 deaths

Taiwan reported 53,356 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. That's the second highest number of cases in a day since the current wave began in August.

If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Hsinchu County has the highest per-capita number of infections. More than 1,100 people have new cases of COVID there. New Taipei is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Taoyuan.

Another 29 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and less than half had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.

Authorities say another 142 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.

Taiwan also recorded 65 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
