More than 400 cases of damage to private and public property have been reported due to Storm Nesat, which hit Taiwan over the weekend and brought extreme rainfall.
The storm moved away from Taiwan on Monday and the Central Emergency Operation Center downgraded the disaster to level 2 as precipitation decreased.
The Central Weather Bureau says there are still high chances of very heavy rain and gusty winds through Tuesday in areas north of Taoyuan City and the northeastern parts of Taiwan.
As of Monday at 9:00 am, the National Fire Agency reported 414 cases of destruction to roads and facilities, including 243 in Taipei and 126 in New Taipei. As of 8:00 am Monday morning, nineteen areas in Taipei were still flooded.
Seventy people are stranded in a residential community in New Taipei's Xizhi District due to a landslide. They are safe and waiting to be evacuated.
Early Monday morning, a total of 297 persons trapped on the Northern Cross-Country Highway in Yilan County were rescued. They had been stuck in their vehicles and were rescued at around 1:10 am. Some of them have been taken to nearby Chilan Village.
Traffic on two sections of national highways on Provincial Highway 8 and the Southern Cross-Country Highway will fully reopen Wednesday morning.
