Taiwan's democracy is a model for the world. That was the word from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) Chair Kennety Wollack on Monday during his meeting with President Tsai-wen at the Presidential Office.

Taiwan is hosting the World Movement for Democracy, a forum that will be held from October 25 to October 27. Over 200 democracy activists, journalists and lawmakers from over 70 countries will participate, including 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa and NED CEO Damon Wilson.

Wollack said Taiwan is a strong democracy that emerged after nearly four decades of martial law. He said, “Despite continuing internal and external challenges, this is not a place where democracy is in peril.”

President Tsai Ing-wen said that Taiwan faces many challenges but has strengthened its defense and resilience. This year the country established the All-Out Defense Mobilization Agency and the Ministry of Digital Affairs to strengthen its defense capabilities and fight against disinformation.

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a private, nonprofit foundation dedicated to strengthening democratic institutions around the world. Each year, NED give more than 2,000 grants to support non-governmental groups that are working towards democratic goals in over 100 countries.
