Taiwan’s National Central Library signed cooperation agreements with the national libraries of Estonia and Lithuania on October 11. Library director Tseng Shu-hsien (曾淑賢) said on Wednesday that exchanges between the libraries will provide more opportunities for learning to all involved.
Under the agreements, books as well as digital materials related to Taiwan are to be made available to the public in a “Taiwan Corner.” Tseng says the new partnerships will expand people’s understanding of the history and culture of Taiwan. She adds it will also improve exchanges between Taiwan and eastern Europe.
The “Taiwan Corner” space will include resources for children and adults covering topics such as Chinese calligraphy and painting, folk arts and crafts, and the natural environment.
The Taiwanese literature spaces are part of a larger initiative to promote Taiwan to the world that includes 44 special centers for Chinese studies. The effort involves partnerships with higher education institutions worldwide.
