Taiwan will include a civil defense curriculum in its national defense education efforts. The government may also form special guidance teams to prevent the spread of misinformation. That came from national police chief Huang Ming-chao (黃明昭) speaking at the legislature on Wednesday.
During questions, lawmakers mentioned that numerous civic groups have released materials to teach the public practical skills related to civil defense. These materials also emphasize the danger of misinformation to national defense. But Taiwan’s civil defense curriculum doesn’t include information on these topics.
Police chief Huang says civil defense training will be included in Taiwan’s national defense education. He says experts will be brought on to teach skills relevant to a possible conflict, including how to assist the military and evacuation procedures.
Lawmakers also say civil defense groups, according to government directives, do not have guidance responsibilities. This may possibly leave citizens confused as to what to do during a conflict. Huang says this problem can be solved by forming special guidance teams to deal with these issues.
