National library expands research cooperation with European universities

Taiwan’s National Central Library is working with European universities to open research centers for Taiwan and Chinese studies. Library administrator Hung Shu-fen (洪淑芬) said on Monday that the library will work with five European universities to exchange books and online resources, as well as host joint exhibitions.

Library Director Tseng Shu-hsien (曾淑賢) represented the library in October at opening ceremonies for Chinese studies resource centers at universities in Lithuania, Estonia, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary.

Tseng says the agreements mark a joint effort to increase access to Taiwan’s resources in a variety of different formats, including books, audio and video. The collaborations will also promote seminars and other activities between researchers and students from Europe and Taiwan.

Some of the universities the National Central Library is working with are the largest, oldest, or ranked the highest in their respective countries. Since the early 2000s, the library has promoted the study of Sinology and helped support the development of more than 40 research centers worldwide.
