Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) is leading a delegation to Palau to enhance bilateral ties and work together in the tourism industry. The delegation is set to arrive in Palau on Tuesday and will stay until Thursday.
Lai says the delegation includes leaders from Taiwan's national and local tourism associations, as well as representatives from several major travel agencies. He says now that Taiwan's borders are open, the country wants to build stronger ties with other nations in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
The vice president says he hopes Taiwan and Palau can work together to develop their tourism industries and economies after facing hardships during the pandemic. He adds that their collaboration will help the rest of the world learn more about Palau's beauty.
Lai says the delegation will meet with Palau's president, vice president, as well as visit the country's congress. He says Taiwan is grateful for Palau's support in the international community, and he's looking forward to working together to spread the values of democracy, freedom and human rights.
