Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) says Taiwan and Palau enjoy close ties due to shared geography, linguistics, and democratic values. That comment came on Thursday afternoon, as Lai concluded his three-day trip to the island nation.
Palau President Surangel Whipps, Jr. accompanied Lai during parts of his visit, including a trip to the Rock Islands, a popular tourist destination. Lai says Whipps put a lot of effort into presenting the beauty of Palau.
During his visit, Lai focused not only on tourism, but also on cooperation in areas of medicine and education. He also said Taiwan could learn from Palau’s environmental protection efforts.
President Whipps expressed approval and gratitude for the planned resumption of scheduled flights between Taiwan and Palau. He added that Lai’s visit was a “home run.”
