Tourism fair kicks off, aims to restart global travel industry
The opening ceremony of Taipei's 2022 annual tourism fair.

The 2022 Taipei International Travel Fair opened at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center on Friday with tourism representatives from 71 countries and cities. The four-day event is hosted by the Taiwan Visitors Association and is focused on the theme of sustainable travel.

Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said in a speech at the opening ceremony that Taiwan is eager to welcome back foreign tourists after more than two years of border restrictions. She calls on tourism businesses to work with the government on expanding Taiwan’s tourism industry and promoting the country’s attractions.

Ye Chu-lan (葉菊蘭), head of the Taiwan Visitors Association, says this year’s event will feature 1,200 booths, which is twice as many as last year. Exhibitors include travel agencies, hotels, airlines, restaurants, and other operators aiming to kickstart a recovery in global travel.
