The United States and South Korea have reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Defense ministers of both countries made the joint statement at a security consultation meeting on Thursday.
Prior to that, in October, high-ranking officials from the US, Japan and South Korea also brought up the issue at a US-Singapore strategic partnership dialogue. The three sides also underscored the importance of cooperation among them to ensure Taiwan has sufficient self-defense capabilities.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry on Friday said that in the face of China’s military expansion and provocative actions, the government will continue to strengthen the nation’s own self-defense capabilities. That’s while deepening close security partnership with the US and other like-minded countries to jointly defend a value-based international order.
