Taiwan reported 16,538 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
About a sixth of the people with new cases of COVID are from New Taipei, with 2,720 people there testing positive. Another 2,735 have the disease in Taichung, along with 2,229 in Kaohsiung.
Another 34 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and only about a third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 121 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 23 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
