The Taiwan Education and Culture Committee has begun investigation of three cultural relics damaged at the Taiwan National Palace Museum in the last 18 months.
In October, legislator Chen I-hsin (陳以信) exposed the damage to national treasures held at the National Palace Museum and accused its Director Wu Mi-cha (吳密察) of covering up the incidents. Wu says that all three cases were handled in accordance with regulations. Regardless, the Education and Culture Committee has been tasked with investigating the museum’s facilities. The government group will look into the preservation and management procedures and the accidents’ causes.
The damaged items have been valued at US$77 million, drawing the international community’s attention. The committee and the Taiwan National Palace Museum will be working to refine operational procedures and storage management to improve the safety of cultural relics.
