On Tuesday a team of Taiwanese researchers and students tested their own self-developed rocket. Officials say this is a big step forward for Taiwan’s progress in the tech industry.

On Tuesday Taiwan tested a new, locally produced rocket. Developed by a team of researchers at Tainan’s National Cheng Kung University, the vessel’s launch impressed onlookers.

One bystander says this kind of research and development is amazing. Another says if they can make something like a rocket, the future is bright.

The development team carefully held its breath as it monitored the launch.

One team member says although the launch was exciting, the most important goal is to analyze the test results. Another researcher says the team had been making adjustments for a week prior to the launch.

Tuesday’s launch tested the new rocket’s air separation and high altitude ignition systems. The rocket’s top includes Taiwanese cosmic rays detection technology.

Professor Chao Yi-chin (趙怡欽) says igniting fuel at high altitudes is much more difficult than doing it on the ground.

The rocket research group was started in 2019. Tuesday’s test launch was the first fruit of their labor.

Research and science official Ho Chi-fang (何紀芳) says the rocket’s research and production means Taiwan’s aerospace technology has taken a big step forward.

Officials say they will continue to work with Cheng Kung University to develop new technologies. Regardless of the results, Tuesday’s launch was already a milestone to be reckoned with.
