Taiwan expects to lift its COVID-19 outdoor mask mandate later this month. That’s the word from top epidemic official Victor Wang (王必勝) on Wednesday.
Wang says lifting mask mandates will happen in stages. He says as the impact of the pandemic continues to subside in Taiwan, mask mandates can be gradually removed in different contexts. Wang says Taiwan follows current guidelines from the WHO which continues to recommend wearing masks indoors but does not recommend outdoor masking.
Wang says his office is working on a second stage of further mask mandate removals but does not have a timetable of when it will be implemented. In the second stage, mask wearing regulations will be further relaxed except in places such as hospitals and public transportation.
