Taiwan reported 20,269 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
The highest number of people with new cases of COVID was recorded in New Taipei, with 3,225 people there testing positive. Another 2,844 have the disease in Kaohsiung, along with 2,659 in Taichung.
Another 62 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and less than half had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 137 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 37 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
