President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will be speaking virtually at the “Struggle for Freedom” conference hosted by the George W. Bush Institute next week. That’s the word from Presidential Office spokesperson Xavier Chang on Friday.
The event is jointly organized by the Freedom House and the National Endowment for Democracy. Chang says the invitation indicates that Taiwan is in a position to advocate for democratic freedoms. Chang says the president emphasized the importance of protecting national sovereignty and security on many occasions in the past. The spokesperson says Tsai has a responsibility to pass down the legacy of democratic freedom and lifestyle. Chang says Tsai will use her speech at the conference to share Taiwan’s experience at the frontline of the fight for democracy and Taiwan’s willingness to engage with the world.
The conference will feature a conversation between former US President George W. Bush and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
