Taiwan relaxes COVID-19 restrictions, shortens isolation period
Health official Victor Wang.

The Taiwanese government shortened quarantine requirements for people infected with COVID-19. Starting Monday, people who test positive for the disease will only have to isolate for five days. And they will no longer have to follow self-health management protocols if they test negative after isolation.

However, infected people who test positive after five days should continue to observe self-health management protocols for a maximum of seven days. In addition, people traveling to Taiwan will continue to receive four free rapid test kits upon arrival to be used during the first seven days of their stay.

Taiwan’s Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) says reducing quarantine will help re-open the economy and allow travelers to plan for the holiday season. He added that the volume of inbound and outbound passengers skyrocketed in the first month after health officials removed the quarantine requirement for international arrivals and cut the isolation period for COVID cases to seven days.

Health authorities say the new regulations will also help life return to normal as infection rates decline and vaccination numbers increase.
