President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with members of a think tank from Washington — the Center for American Progress (CAP).

CAP is one of the most influential think tanks focusing on US policies and often advises the US government. Tsai thanked the organization's Chairman Tom Daschle for his continuous support for Taiwan. She hopes to continue working with the National Democratic Institution (NDI), also chaired by Daschle.

In her remarks, the President said that Taiwan and the US share democratic values, and thanked the Biden administration for their military assistance. She said Taiwan will continue to strengthen its military defenses, and that she hopes to build a safer and more reliable global supply chain.

Tsai also said the first round of negotiations for the US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade is complete. That will serve as a roadmap for future cooperation. In the near future, Taiwan and the US will continue to promote trade partnerships that contribute to the development of the Indo-Pacific region.

In his remarks, Daschle said both Taiwan and the US are currently facing election related challenges. Strengthening governance is a crucial task in upholding democracy. He said that NDI's Taiwan office will cement Taiwan as a center for democracy in the Indo-Pacific region. He hopes the partnership will create more economic opportunities and a safer environment.
