A Taiwanese firm has been selling semiconductors to Russia and is facing possible US sanctions for supplying military technology to the Kremlin. That was the word from Taiwan’s Economics Ministry on Tuesday, regarding the company Sharp Edge Engineering.

The ministry says Sharp Edge is a one-person company established in Taiwan by a Russian national. The ministry says it has been aware of the company's semiconductor sales to Russia involving military technology since the middle of this year. The ministry adds that it will cooperate with the Finance Ministry to form a stronger management system.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) says Taiwan announced in February that it would join the economic sanctions against Russia due to the Ukraine invasion. Ou says this decision aligns with the international community’s general response to the war in Ukraine.
